Learn about PRESTO

Load Card & Check Balance

With PRESTO, you have the flexibility to load different products to your card. There are two types of PRESTO loads:

  1. Add value: Your PRESTO card can have a maximum balance of $1000. When you ride, the system calculates the lowest possible fare for your trip and deducts it from the balance stored on your card.
  2. Add a monthly/weekly pass: Some Transit Agencies allow you to load a monthly/weekly pass to your card. With a monthly or weekly pass, you can take an unlimited number of trips while the pass is active. Participating Transit Agencies:
    • Brampton Transit
    • Durham Region Transit (DRT)
    • Oakville Transit
    • OC Transpo
    • York Region Transit/VIVA
    • Hamilton Street Railway (HSR)
    • MiWay (monthly pass only)

Please note: HSR passes can be purchased and loaded at any HSR Customer Service Outlet or online, except for Seniors' Annual passes, which can only be purchased in person.

Passes purchased online will take 24 hours to reach your card, at which point you must tap on a PRESTO device.

Autoload

Setting up Autoload on your PRESTO card is easy to do, and offers flexibility to travel and always have money on your card. With Autoload, you set the minimum amount you want on your card and then tell the system how much you would like to add when your balance falls below the minimum you set. Minimum balances can start as low as $5.00 and go as high as $60.00. Plus, you don’t have to worry about reloading manually, it’s done automatically and instantly. There’s no fuss, no worries, and you’re always ready to ride!

Set up Autoload online

Please note that Autoload can only be set up online using your credit card. If you would like to set up Autoload using a debit card, please use a paper form.

  1. Ensure your PRESTO card is registered
  2. Log in to your account using your username and password
  3. Click Autoload from the green menu bar at the top of the page
  4. Follow the instructions to set up Autoload
    • a. Choose your minimum balance in the “When my balance falls below:” section
      b. Choose the amount of funds you would like to add to your card each time your balance falls below the minimum in the “Add this much to my PRESTO card:” section
  5. After 24 hours, tap your card by using it to travel. (Why 24 hours?) This final step adds the Autoload contract to your card. Continue to tap as usual and the next time you reach your Autoload threshold, value will be added to your card.

*Tapping onto a balance checker within 30 days will only initialize the contract so it is ready to use when you travel. This will not add more funds to your card.

Please note that transactions performed online will expire in 30 days if you do not tap your card by using it to travel or using a Balance Checker. To reactivate an expired transaction, please call 1-8-PRESTO-123 (1-877-378-6123).

In addition, please check that your credit card information is updated prior to your card expiry date to ensure continued service with PRESTO.
