At PRESTO, your security is our top priority and while we’re doing everything we can to make sure your accounts and information are safe, there are some things you can do too. Check out these tips and tricks to make sure you have a smooth and secure PRESTO experience.
Steer clear of discounted or “pre-loaded” PRESTO cards
Fraudsters will sometimes advertise discounted or pre-loaded PRESTO cards for sale on through social media or other unauthorized websites. But the sellers just take your money and leave you with a card the doesn’t work. Which leads to our next tip:
Use official PRESTO channels only
Make sure you’re only buying and loading your PRESTO card through an official PRESTO source. That means PRESTO vending machines and our official retail partners. For digital PRESTO cards, make sure you’re only using the PRESTO app, Apple Wallet or Google Wallet to get a new card.
Protect your balance
Once you have a PRESTO card, make sure to register it to an account on the PRESTO website or app. If your card is lost or stolen, you can cancel it quickly and transfer the balance to a new card. Registering your card also unlocks other great benefits, like Autoload.
Spot fraud early
If you make a habit of reviewing your balance and transaction history regularly on the PRESTO website or app, you’ll notice anything unusual quickly. Always contact PRESTO right away if you see any unfamiliar activity on your PRESTO card.
Stay alert
PRESTO will never call, text or email you asking for your password, PIN, or one-time verification code. If you receive a message asking for this information, it’s a scam – do not respond or share your details! If you need assistance, you can call 1-877-378-6123.
Another good reminder is that PRESTO never uses text messages (SMS) to communicate with our customers and never asks for personal or payment information through unsolicited messages or links.
These tips can help you keep your PRESTO account safe so you can tap and ride with ease.
