Have questions about how to use PRESTO in Google Wallet? Here are the answers to some of our most commonly asked questions.

You need the following in order to use PRESTO in Google Wallet:

  • A phone with near-field communication (NFC) enabled
  • Android 7.0 or higher
  • The latest version of the Google Wallet app.
  • The latest version of Google Play Services
  • A Google Account

Yes! You need the following in order to use PRESTO in Google Wallet with your Wear OS watch:

  • Wear OS 2.0 or higher.  Check your watch version.
  • Near-field communication (NFC)
  • The latest version of the Google Wallet app installed on your watch
  • The latest version of Google Play Services installed on your watch

Performance may vary based on smartwatch modelIf you’re having difficulty tapping your smartwatch to pay for transit, we recommend moving your card back to Google Wallet on your phone

Your PRESTO in Google Wallet card can only be active on one device at a timeIf it is active on your watch but you want to use it on your phone, you will need to remove it from your watch first and then add it back to your phone

There are two ways to add a PRESTO in Google Wallet card to your Wear OS watchFirst, make sure your watch and phone are connected to each otherTo get a PRESTO card on your watch, you can:

1Buy a card through the Google Wallet app using your Wear OS watchSearch for "PRESTO" or "Toronto" in your Google Wallet to add a PRESTO in Google Wallet card. Once complete this card will be saved to your Wear OS watch by default and can be transferred to your phone at any time 2Transfer an existing PRESTO in Google Wallet card from your phone to your Wear OS watch

Note: To register your PRESTO in Google Wallet card to a PRESTO account, it needs to be saved and active in Google Wallet on your phone and not saved to your Wear OS watch

For a digital transit card to work, there must be one single version of that cardEach payment method used to pay your fare, whether that is a physical PRESTO card or a card in your mobile wallet on your phone or watch, is treated as a unique card by the PRESTO systemThis helps to simplify the fare payment system for customers while also preventing fraudThis is the transit industry standard for digital fare payment cards

If you want to keep your physical PRESTO card while enjoying the benefits and convenience of a PRESTO card in Google Wallet, you can create a new PRESTO card in Google Wallet, instead of converting your existing physical PRESTO card, but they will be separate cardsYou will need to load them separately and you can only use one card for a continuous trip

No, you can't reactivate a physical PRESTO card once you convert it into a PRESTO card in Google WalletOnce you convert a physical card, it will no longer work

If you would like to switch back to using a physical PRESTO card you can request a refund on your PRESTO card in Google Wallet balance and buy a new physical cardA service fee will be appliedRefund form for PRESTO in Mobile Wallet.

If you registered your PRESTO in Google Wallet card to your PRESTO account, you can recover your card by signing in to the PRESTO app on a new device, removing the card from your old device and adding to the new deviceOn your new device:

1Open the Google Wallet app and select your PRESTO card

2In the top right corner select the three vertical dots.

3Scroll down and select “Move card to another device”This will allow you to deactivate your PRESTO card and then reactivate it again after the factory reset is complete

4Once your factory reset is complete and the Google Wallet app is installed select the 'Activate' option to reactivate your card

If you are using an anonymous PRESTO card in Google Wallet, you can't transfer it to a new deviceRegister your card to a PRESTO account for added balance protection

When paying at a PRESTO device using PRESTO in Google Wallet, you might see a “Multiple Cards Detected” message on the PRESTO device

As an added privacy measure, Google Pay uses a unique identifier for each individual tap, including fare payments and free transfer tapsWhen you tap, sometimes the PRESTO device can read more than one identifier at the same time and the device screen will show a “Multiple Cards Detected” message

If you receive are receiving a 'multiple cards detected' or ‘phone moved too fast’ message try the following:

  • Move your phone out of range of the payment reader for a few seconds and try againYour NFC antenna could be near the top or bottom of your devicePlease check the NFC antenna location for your specific phone model.

  • Hold your phone still and closer to the payment reader for a few more seconds

If you are receiving a ‘Try Another Card’ message try the following:

  • Make sure your phone screen is awake when making a fare payment.

  • Check that your PRESTO card is active in Google Wallet.

  • Move your phone out of range of the payment reader for a few seconds and try again.

  • Deactivate and reactivate your card from within Google Wallet and try again

1Within Google Wallet select your PRESTO card.

2In the top right corner select the three vertical dots.

3Scroll down and select “Move card to another device”This will allow you to deactivate your PRESTO card and then reactivate it again

No, simply wake up your phone and hold it to the card reader until you see a check markYou can only make a limited number of locked transactions before your phone asks you to unlock it

If you have 'Secure NFC' on, you can only pay with your phone when your screen is unlocked

When using a smartwatch, unlock your watch, open the Google Wallet app, select your PRESTO card, and hold it near the reader until you see a checkmark

Yes! Any PRESTO card in Google Wallet added through the Google Wallet app is not registered to a PRESTO account by defaultTo register a card sign into your PRESTO account on the mobile app, select "Add Card" and "Add an Existing PRESTO in Google Wallet card"

Make sure the card you want to register is active in the Google Wallet app

There is no limit to how many PRESTO in Google Wallet cards you can store in your wallet; however, you can only have one active card in Google Wallet at a time

PRESTO in Google Wallet can only be used using with Google PayTo set Google Pay as your default payment method follow the steps below

1Open Settings

2Tap Connections

3Tap NFC and contactless payments

4Tap Contactless payments

5Choose Google Pay as your default payment method

1Within Google Wallet select your PRESTO card. 2In the top right corner select the three vertical dots 3Scroll down and select “Move card to another device”This will allow you to deactivate your PRESTO card and then reactivate it again 4On your new phone, download Google Wallet and set it up with your same account details 5Once complete you will see the option to 'Activate' your card

Unfortunately, these features are unavailable for PRESTO in Google Wallet cards

If you need a Transit Usage Report for tax or business purposes, please continue to use the PRESTO physical card

If you need your transaction history for your old physical card, that was converted to a PRESTO card in Google wallet, you can contact us at our call centre with your old physical card number

If you travel on OC Transpo and you've converted to PRESTO in Google Wallet by mistake, please follow these steps:

1Register your PRESTO in Google Wallet to your PRESTO Account through the PRESTO App.

2Buy a new physical PRESTO card at a Customer Service Outlet or PRESTO Vending MachineYou can also buy a new PRESTO card online, but it can take up to 7 to 10 business days for your card to ship

3Call the PRESTO Contact Centre at 1-877-378-6123 and we will help you through the rest of the process

No, unfortunately, you cannot use a debit card or PAD to set up an Autoload or Autorenew contract

If you have an existing Pre-Authorized Debit Agreement (“PAD Agreement”) on your physical card and you convert this card to PRESTO in Google Wallet this agreement(s) will be canceledYou can set up a new contract in the PRESTO app using a VISA Debit, Debit Mastercard or Credit Card

If your child or children (13 years or older) have their own smart devices, then you can create PRESTO cards through the PRESTO app on their devices, set the appropriate fare type on those PRESTO cards and have your children pay their transit fare with PRESTO in Google Wallet

Children under 13 cannot use PRESTO in Google WalletYou can still get a physical PRESTO card for your kids and set up a Child fare type
