More Helpful Information

For Apple users, we recommend using an iPhone X or newer model for the best experience when tapping with your phone.

When you tap your Interac debit card on an UP Express PRESTO device, a temporary pre-authorization may be placed on your card. The amount will be the fare to the furthest stop from where you tapped on, even if your actual fare is less. This pre-authorization will be held by your bank until PRESTO calculates the actual fare for your trip and charges your bank account. Charges should appear the next day. Transaction fees associated with your bank account may also apply - please check with your bank.

If you tap your credit card, debit card, or cards added to a mobile wallet on a phone or watch, and the PRESTO device says that the payment was not accepted, please check with your bank or use another payment method to pay your fare. If you’re using a physical credit card and it’s not being accepted, try adding it to your mobile wallet on your phone or watch in order to pay.

How PRESTO Contactless Works

Tap On

Tap On

To start, tap on a PRESTO device with your credit or debit card* – or add your card to a mobile wallet and tap with your phone or watch. Remember to take the card you want to pay with out of your wallet, purse or phone case when you tap. Taking your card out to tap ensures you pay with the right card. Make sure there’s enough battery power on your phone or watch for your entire trip.

*Tapping with Interac debit is currently only available when travelling on UP Express.
PRESTO Contactless Tap Off

Tap Off – GO Transit & UP Express only

Tap off on a PRESTO device at the end of your trip with the same credit card, debit card, or card in the phone or watch you used to tap on with – tapping off ensures you pay the correct fare for your trip.
PRESTO Contactless POP

Proof of Contactless Payment

During a fare inspection, your proof of payment is the same credit card, debit card or card in your mobile wallet you used to pay your fare. If you tap the wrong card or mobile wallet for a fare inspection, your card could be charged an Inspection Fare.

PRESTO Contactless Fares

Contactless payment with credit and debit options are a safe, easy and cashless way to pay for transit.

When tapping with credit on GO Transit and UP Express, the fare charged will be the same as an adult PRESTO card fare. On participating transit agencies in the 905 region, the fare charged will be the same as a cash fare.

You can tap an Interac Debit to pay for a PRESTO adult fare on UP Express.

For specific fare pricing, please check with your participating local transit agency. GO Transit and UP Express fares are automatically calculated based on distance travelled – while other transit agencies may charge a flat fare.

Always use the same payment card, phone or watch as your proof of payment during fare inspection on-board the train.

GO Transit and UP Express customers, please tap off when you exit at your destination.

If you’re a frequent transit rider, you may still benefit from using your PRESTO card as the preferred form of payment to receive discounts that may be in place for PRESTO card users, such as Youth, Student and Senior discounts. Check out the chart at the bottom of the New to PRESTO page to find out what PRESTO product is right for you.
